So I'm sitting here with a ice pack on my knee, sipping some wine and wondering why I haven't aquired some common sense by now.
I mean, if I had any common sense I would not have had to visit the orthopaedist, have a cortizone injection and be worried about possible knee surgery all because of that damn YouTube.
People my age should stay away from that place. It'd dangerous. I'm warning you. You go there and find the music of your youth and the next thing you know you're dancing.
Apparantly, what got me was Chubby Checker. You can't just listen to "The Twist". You are required to do it! It was sort of a command performance. My daughter and her daughter were leaving my house, the music was playing and Zoe said "my mom can do the twist." And I said, so can your grandmother. Naturally, the dare came next. So her mother and I had a twist-off (Zoe said I won), the music stopped, we laughed and hugged goodbye, they left and I felt so good I looked up a few more oldies and danced further down the road to possible knee surgery.
Which brings me to an important subject. Health insurance. You see, I might not have any common sense but I do have good health insurance - the kind everyone should have. It's called Medicare. Because I have that and I have private supplemental insurance (called Medigap) and Part D for drugs, my stupidity won't cost me anything but some pain and time. I have great doctors, I don't have to sit hours in an emergency room waiting to be served, appointments are at my convenience and I never see a bill.
So I want to thank all you much younger Kossacks who pay into the systems that support Social Security and Medicare and pledge to continue to do my part to pressure Congress to pass a Health Care Reform bill with a public option so at least something similar to what I have can be made available to all.
Kudos to Eve, Slinkerwink, Dr. Dean and others who prod us almost daily to work the phones. Time is of the essence. We were blown out in 93 and all the same forces are aligned against us now. We must not fail.
Update: MB has an eye opening health care piece on the Front Page.
