Roland Burris just gave an exclusive interview to Chris Matthews, and what a trainwreck it was.
Burris was patched into Harball by phone which did not help his cause. He was completely defensive from start to finish, and his voice was constantly raised in a sort of wheedling/explanative tone.
Matthews played several segments of the wiretapped conversations and Burris really has no defense to speak of. Matthews eventually had Burris so twisted in knots that Burris' final defense was that he was really just lying to the Governors brother.
Following the interview two reporters from Chicago, Jim Warren and Lynn Sweet, critiqued Burris. Warren called it a rhetorical self immolation and suggested Matthews tender his services to the Senate ethics commitee.
Matthews got to the root of the issue just prior to going to commercial from Warren/Sweet. "You know who has a problem right now? The Democratic party of Illinois has a problem. They don't have the right senator".
Blago just HAD to go and appoint someone and he must have known he was giving the Democrats a massive headache. I can't wait to see him thrown in the clink.
I apologize for a quick hit 'diary', but I figured Kossacks who saw the trainwreck would want a spot to comment on it. If this turns into a decent thread I'll post video when it becomes available.
Update: Here's part one of the interview, put up by the townhall folks. If someone else puts up the entire interview I'll happily exchange the embed. .
And here is part 2: .
