I know I am not the only one who's shaking my head right now at the latest revelations that have come forth regarding now United States Senator, Roland Burris (D-IL) and if we here next door in Wisconsin are expressing embarrassment about it, I can only imagine how Illinoisans are feeling right now.
The Senate Committee received taped transcripts of Roland Burris begging and pleading for the Senate seat vacated by President Barack Obama and discussing ways he could pay to play secure that position without being caught seen as playing for it. When confronted about it, Burris tried to plead his case telling the Press that after he made the comment in question, he acknowledged that it was wrong and changed his mind. He then urged the Media to look at the transcript and it would be made clear that he did nothing wrong.
Okay, let's take a look at the transcript.WARNING: It's in PDF format !!!But here is a snip of the important part that I got from a related story on CNN.com.
During the November 18 conversation, Burris tells Robert Blagojevich, "I know I could give him a check," then says he may make the contribution under Wright's name (his attorney) " because Tim's not looking for an appointment." Burris promises he'll write the check by December 15.
Throughout the talk, Burris presses Blagojevich to tell him how he can help with the campaign without looking like he bought the appointment.
"I'm trying to figure out how to deal with this and still be in the consideration for the appointment," he says.
"I hear ya. No, I year ya," Robert Blagojevich responds.
"And, and if I do that, I guarantee you that, that will get out and people said, 'Oh, Burris is doing a fundraiser' and, and then Rod and I both gonna catch hell. ... And if I do get appointed, that means I bought it."
Ya think ?
