Even I, your humble diarist, know that I'm not the center of the universe today, so let's go over some other notables for "this day in history"!
The album The Freewheelin' Bob Dylan, which featured the song "Blowin' in the Wind," was released on this date in 1963.
Others celebrating birthdays today include Christopher Lee, Louis Gossett, Jr., and Senator Christopher Dodd (who better watch his political behind in CT).
Wild Bill Hickock was born on this date in 1837. And, thanks to "modern technology," we have actual footage of him in Deadwood, SD! ;D Wild Bill had a mouth on him, so don't watch this if you object to such language.
And, on this date 38 years ago, coming in at 9 lbs. 1/2 oz & 20.5" bright & early at 2:55 am, the world was "blessed" with lil' 'ol me! And, I can think of no other people to celebrate part of this day with other than YOU! :D
Let's Countdown!
#5 "The Race & Gender Card" AKA "Strange Bedfellows" AKA "Prop 8 Challenge" - Keith began tonight’s show with the following quote.
When a case comes before me involving, let’s say, someone who’s an immigrant, I can’t help but think of my own ancestors because it wasn’t that long ago that when they were in that position. I have to say to myself, and I do say to myself, "You know, this could be your grandfather. This could be your grandmother." When I get a case about discrimination, I have to think about people in my own family who suffered discrimination because of their ethnic background or their religion or because of gender, and I do take that into account.
These words aren’t from Sonia Sotomayor; they are from Samuel Alito’s confirmation hearing. Did the wing nuts have a heard when he said these words? I forget. ;D TurdBlossom insists he knows lots of stupid people who went to Ivy League schools - yea, like your former f*ckin’ boss! Gov. Huckabee called her "Maria," thereby shooting down what little cred HE had discussing the issue. Newt Gingrich wants her to withdraw because
White man racist nominee would be forced to withdraw. Latina woman racist should also withdraw.
Wow, does Newt honestly think that no one else can get their grimy little paws on this information? Or, does he just not give a $hit if they do? Newt picked a quote from Judge Sotomayor out of context to prove his point. Newt has absolutely positively earned this merit badge tonight.
The GOP is talking about her food choices, too?! WTF??!! Boss Limbaugh has called her a racist & a bigot. Pot...meet kettle; Kettle...meet pot. And, did y’all notice what DIDN’T appear in the corner?! HA! Yea, y’all remember the last Hispanic who served in any kind of a justice capacity?! We absolutely need a palette cleanser after THAT GUY. Keith, NO ONE would be questioning the intellect or credentials of a white guy who had the same background & creds that Judge Sotomayor. Now, who the f*ck saw THIS coming?! Ted Olson & David Boies, the 2 lawyers on the opposing sides of Bush VS. Gore (y’all remember that case, yes?) are WORKING TOGETHER on a federal lawsuit to get Prop 8 overturned. Gadzooks! I get John Dean tonight talking about the Prop 8 stuff; happy birthday to me, indeed! These 2 lawyers aren’t exactly slouches, either. Obviously, I hope they’re successful. Some groups, like the ACLU, DON’T want federal suits filed because they don’t think our current SCOTUS is ready to handle the Prop 8 implications. O...K...that’s a little confusing.
#4 "I Know Nothing" AKA "Sweating Gonzo" AKA "Tort(ure) Reform" - Fredo is desperately trying to distance himself from the DOJ & their lovely memos. What...a...nimrod. We’re supposed to ignore that Fredo was asked about this entire ilk when he was essentially GWB’s personal lawyer at the time. Hasn’t he been disbarred yet?! It could be darn interesting to see the lengths GWB’s & DICK’s peeps may go to try to save their sorry arses. Fredo’s not going out & bragging about his role in the tortures like DICK is.
** Keith, you didn’t mention your diarist’s birthday today. Shame...on...you! ;D There’s video of the guy in China who shoved the guy off the bridge. Wow! A fish camp in Florida found a gator in their terlet after a big rain. Yea, I’d need a change of underoos if I found a gator in a terlet. Eggs are getting tossed at politicians in the Czech Republic. I guess they don’t have rotten ‘maters, huh? OK, y’all are going to have to clear up one of the "bests" for me. A guy was stopped at an airport because he had no finger prints? Someone called 911 because someone from McDonalds didn’t give a little brother a juice box. A place in L.A. is auctioning off prescription bottles from "the King’s" doctor. Ya’ think that’s tasteless? At least the bathroom rug isn’t being auctioned off! **
#3 "The Fact of Torture" AKA "Absolutely Torture" AKA "Tortured Debate" - Here’s Erich Muller getting doused again. We have a Keith & Rachel tag – team! We now have someone else part of this waterboarding debate with first – hand experience in waterboarding – someone who had previously said it wasn’t torture. Some people, like the Mannity, will NEVER question his presumptions about waterboarding. That’s why I’m still peeved that Keith let him off the hook. No, I won’t be getting over that anytime soon – sorry. Not to be nit – picky, Rachel, but I don’t remember anyone getting waterboarded on 24. I remember people being shocked, hacked up, beat up, etc. but no waterboarding.
WPITW – A retired colonel who appeared on FAUX News has a solution to the Gitmo detainee problem – kill them. FAUX News is saying Judge Sotomayor should not be on SCOTUS because she quoted a socialist in a yearbook. A Center for Immigration Studies dude wants Judge Sotomayor gone because her name is just too damn difficult to pronounce.
#1 "WTF!?! Moment" - Congressman John Culberson of Texas has some interesting theories about the same – sex marriage issue. Rep. Culberson thinks the 10th amendment talks about morality – wrong! Dude, this guy is FUBARred in the head! How does interstate commerce fit into the gay marriage debate?! Oh Keith, thanks for the Blazing Saddles clip; you DID give me a birthday present! ;D
