It's unfortunate that a doctor who does a job he gets paid for and whose clients come to see freely loses his life just walking to attend church today.
Dr. George Tiller of Women's Health Care Services, P.A., in Wichita, Kansas, was shot and killed while entering church today. Tiller, whose clinic received national attention for performing late-term abortions, has been a victim before of an attempted killing, getting shot in both arms by Rachelle Shannon at his clinic in 1993.
I think it is truly shocking that people in America who disagree so much with others consider such actions moral and satisfying. To take a man's life for doing his job, just because you disagree with what he does for a living, makes you a sick and demented person in my book. I disagree with a lot of what the Christian Right does, but you don't see me killing priests, now do you?
Speaking of Christians, how convenient this is that it took place at a church.
Members of the congregation who were inside the sanctuary at the time of the shooting were being kept inside the church by police, and those arriving were being ushered into the parking lot immediately after the shooting. Witnesses later were being transported downtown for interviews and other members of the congregation were slowly being released from inside the sanctuary.
I wonder whether or not they prayed for the family of Tiller? I wonder whether or not they spoke to Tiller every Sunday when he attended church?
But, here's an anti-abortion group do it:
"We are shocked at this morning's disturbing news that Mr. Tiller was gunned down," anti-abortion group Operation Rescue said in a statement on its Web site. "Operation Rescue has worked for years through peaceful, legal means, and through the proper channels to see him brought to justice. We denounce vigilantism and the cowardly act that took place this morning. We pray for Mr. Tiller's family that they will find comfort and healing that can only be found in Jesus Christ."
How ironic, isn't it.
My thoughts and prayers are with Dr. Tiller's family. I am truly saddened that the only way people who disagree with others resort to this type of action to "win" a battle for the other side of the argument.
On the story above, one commenter shared this:
The murder of Dr. Tiller may have been committed by one person, but it was organizations like Operation Rescue and others in the ironically named "pro-life" movement that loaded the gun. It's disingenuous for Operation Rescue to denounce vigilantism on one hand, but enable it on the other through its constant refrain of abortion and abortion providers being evil.
Groups like Operation Rescue should be brought up on conspiracy charges. You can only call an abortion doctor evil so many times before some unstable person decides to act on it. You can only call blacks inferior so many times before someone ties a black man to the bumper of his pickup and drags him to death. You can only call a gay person an abomination so many times before someone thinks it's OK to tie one to a fence, pistol whip him and leave him there until he dies. You can only refer to illegal immigrants as a scourge so many times before someone takes the law into his own hands.
What are your thoughts?
