Yes, the blowhard of blowhards, the drug addled gasbag that is Rush Limbaugh, after calling Sonia Sotomayor a racist for days, after shamelessly seeking to profit and capitalize politically with yet another partisan, rich, white guy attack on a minority candidate (sound familiar?), Limbaugh now says he may support Sotomayor's nomination.
I'm sure that, even in his glass bubble of neo-conservatism, Limbaugh realized that his party, despite the bluster from he and his ilk, is fast becoming a regional southern entity, doomed to the political sidelines for decades, especially if they finish alienating Latinos in this country.
Unbelievable quotes below the fold.....
From Politico:
After calling Judge Sonia Sotomayor a "reverse racist" last week, conservative radio host Rush Limbaugh said Wednesday that he may now possibly support President Barack Obama’s pick for the Supreme Court.
"I can see a possibility of supporting this nomination if I can be convinced that she does have a sensibility toward life in a legal sense," Limbaugh said during his show.
In justifying his flip, Limbaugh pointed out that Sotomayor is Catholic and "doesn't have a clear record on abortion."
Is it just me, or is the Republican Party in general, and its spokespeople specifically (Limbaugh, Cheney, etc.) becoming just a hollow shell of ideology? Do they believe in anything anymore? Will they stand by their conviction, however idiotic? Or will they cave to the politically expedient even after uttering bellicose bullshit for weeks?
Despite voicing potential support, Limbaugh also said that he is not backing off his claim that Sotomayor is a "reverse racist."
"I'm not retracting it. Nobody's refuted it," he said. "When she says she'd do a better job than a white guy, what is it? It's racism, reverse racism, whatever, but it's still racism. She would bring a form of racism, bigotry to the court."
Oh, OK. That makes perfect sense now. You still think she's a racist, but you'll support her? The Republican Party, fiolks, not only bad ideas, not only no ideas, but confusing ones too. Hurrah!
