I sent this message to President Obama tonight at whitehouse.gov:
I offer you a political suggestion for blunting the effects of right-wing media on retaining support for the GOP: Very publicly invite third-party leaders to the White House for a summit on how they might successfully replace the GOP as America's second party.
As long as the likes of Rush Limbaugh and Bill O'Reilly continue to boldly bloviate against your administration, you will have a difficult time making progressive inroads into convincing conservative Americans to accept even your most benign leadership.
Right wing media make conservatives afraid to leave the GOP by painting us Democrats as evil. But this only works because conservatives have no other option apparent to them.
What I am suggesting is that you actively elevate third parties, in general, and Libertarians, in particular, so that conservatives will begin to flow away from the GOP even if they don't come all the way to us Democrats.
Defeat the GOP by cracking their base in two: Let the GOP keep their fundamentalists, but help their libertarians bolt to a newly revived and more potent Libertarian Party.
It's a simple strategy really: Use the power of the presidency and the media's obsession with political conflict to divide and conquer the GOP base.
