You may recall that I created the Obama Inauguration cover for The Nation magazine... It's been a while and I've been busy on the poster for that cover. I'm almost finished... (I've added over 30 new figures to the artwork), but I could still use your advice... Updated artwork and more below the fold...
So I've been keeping myself busy since that cover came out... (moved, got engaged, etc.) ...and one of the things I've been busy with is updating the artwork... I'm going to be selling posters and limited-edition prints and it's not often that you get a do-over...
I've taken a lot of the suggestions I received here and added over thirty new figures... (list below)... Here's the updated art:
...and here's a bit of detail so you can get a better idea of what this looks like up close.
The added figures brings the total to 99 (or over 100 if you include the Little Rock Nine individually). ...so I'm taking suggestions for the 100th figure... All along this has been a wonderful journey of discovery for me. I've learned so much about the various civil rights struggles these figures have gone through... There could just as easily be hundreds of more people in this image... so many gave so much to make this a better world. But this is just a snapshot... and that will have to do.
Here is the additions: A. Philip Randolph, Andrew Young, Bruce Klunder, Charles Hamilton Houston, Constance Baker Motley, Ed Roberts, Eleanor Roosevelt, Ella Baker, Fannie Lou Hamer, Rev. George Lee, Harper Lee, Harriet Beecher Stowe, Harry Belafonte, Helen Keller, Herbert Lee, James Baldwin, Jesse Owens, Jimmie Lee Jackson, Mark Twain, Oneal Moore, Ralph Bunche, Rev. Joseph Lowery, Bobby & Ted Kennedy, Robert F. Williams, Samuel Younge, Stokely Carmichael, Tommy Smith & John Carlos, William Moore, Frances Ellen Watkins Harper, Richard Wright
...again... many thanks for your suggestions!
I also took the opportunity to update the Obamas' positioning... and now they reflect the actual historic inauguration. (My original version was completed way before the actual event...)
Please feel free to help get the word out... Any blogging or media attention would be most welcome. (if anybody knows the Obamas or Oprah, I'd be happy to put one in their hands) Additional details can be found at my website: www.zenpop.com
And finally... I wanted to thank you all for your wonderful comments regarding my work... I was overwhelmed by the response when I first posted here... (I even heard from the daughter of the Rev. James Reeb!). It has truly been the most exciting and humbling event in my professional life.
