We're beginning to see more attention being given to the need to dismantle the mythology of the benevolence of Ronald Reagan. We need to get beyond the prevailing adolescent love affair with a man who did a great deal of harm here and abroad. This is particulalrly important now as we begin to see the long-term ramifications of his misguided policies.
Reagan pushed for deregulation of industries, including banking; he slashed income taxes for the wealthiest Americans in an experiment known as "supply side" economics, which held falsely that cutting rates for the rich would increase revenues and eliminate the federal deficit.
