The world is increasingly unravelling, and there seems to be no end to the madness. We're debating whether or not torture is right or wrong, There's people enforcing the death penalty, of thier own accord. An American political party appears to be bent on inciting violence, because they can then come to the rescue, with more of it.
If the world needed a voice of reason, and a moderator of peace, it's now. The problem of keeping people like this around, is the weak ones who thrive on the hatred and violence, use their only tool agianst them. Since there's no Gandhi to pull us back from the brink, here's some things he had to say to guide us in a time of strife. It's preferable to have a voice during the times of madness, but one from a previous time may be a help, when searching for answers we aren't getting from our leaders.
Gandhi's wisdom goes without saying, as far as I'm concerned. Here's a few of my favorite gems, for what they're worth. and a link to many more.
Enjoy.
An error does not become truth by reason of multiplied propagation, nor does truth become error because nobody sees it.
A weak man is just by accident. A strong but non-violent man is unjust by accident.
Let us all be brave enough to die the death of a martyr, but let no one lust for martyrdom.
Moral authority is never retained by any attempt to hold on to it. It comes without seeking and is retained without effort.
I object to violence because when it appears to do good, the good is only temporary; the evil it does is permanent.
We may never be strong enough to be entirely nonviolent in thought, word and deed. But we must keep nonviolence as our goal and make strong progress towards it.
Morality which depends upon the helplessness of a man or woman has not much to recommend it. Morality is rooted in the purity of our hearts.
Each one has to find his peace from within. And peace to be real must be unaffected by outside circumstances.
Freedom is not worth having if it does not connote freedom to err.
And, last, but not least; the one I have the most trouble employing in my own life...
Nearly everything you do is of no importance, but it is important that you do it.
