We were ROBBED in Bush v Gore 2000. The Supreme Court was the Supreme Council for one ruling. We were told to stop counting and declare George W. Bush President, and so it was.
Imagine if Obama v McCain was this election and the SCOTUS robbed us again, what would you have done?
It is like that in Iran everyday, and now more than ever.
After viewing the farce that is Democracy in Iran over the past few days I think it is very important that Americans who believe in an open Democracy fully support Iranians who want the same for themselves.
Therefore, I invite you to offer your full support for the Iranians who voted for candidate Mir-Hossein Mousavi and the hopes of the next generation of Iranian "Change"!
This is what winning hearts and minds is all about.
People around the world who want a more Democratic society should be fully supported by Americans no matter where they are from or what their faith is. This is even more true in cases where elections are rigged and the will of the people are suppressed by the powers of a status quo that lacks empathy for the people they wish to control.
With huge turnout driving yesterday's Iranian elections and a population that is becoming younger and more moderate than elder Iranians, there is as just as much hope for more democratic and change as anywhere that oppresses people.
Yesterday they had that ripped out of their hands.
With about 78% of the ballots counted, Ahmadinejad had won 65% of the vote and opened a commanding lead on Mousavi, with 33%, said elections chairman Kamran Daneshjoo.
So says elections chairman Kamran Daneshjoo who may as well be Florida Secretary of State Kathleen Harris.
I wonder who appointed Mr Daneshjoo, the Iran Supreme Council or Ahmadinejad.
A country that allows itself to have it's people's wills thwarted by a powerful few can not be free. This is just as true of a contry that has very seldom instances of personal or political freedom, such as Iran, just as much as it is in a country that has no freedom such as North Korea. When all people are oppressed there is no freedom. When some people are oppressed and disenfranchised of their basic human rights there is still really no freedom. Wherever one human being is oppressed all human beings are oppressed. If they can do it to him, they can do it to you. This is true of stealing elections, or of war or of torture or of any of the other instance when the rights of an individual are denied their personal liberty. This is just as true for Iran as it is in America or any other nation where even only a few may dream to be free.
Secretary of State Hillary Clinton was quoted as saying
"It's a very positive sign that the people of Iran want their voices and their votes to be heard and counted."
I want Progress for Humanity. Whether it is my own nation or elsewhere in the world.
If the voters of Iran wished to not re-elect current President Ahmadinejad they should be able to. Personally, I want Ahmadinejad to lose for reasons that should be obvious. Apparently, so does a growing number of Iranians. This is what I would call Progress.
Expatriate Iranians in the U.S. and elsewhere also voted by the tens of thousands - and many of these votes appeared to be going to Mousavi.
"He is our Obama, " Maliki Zadehamid, a 39-year old exporter voting in Dubai, told The Associated Press.
all quotes by staff writer Corky Siemaszko New York Daily News, pg 12. 6/13/09
Mr Siemaszko points out in his article that Ayatollah Khamenei, not President Ahmadinejad is the person who "calls the shots" in Iran.
Be that as it may, a country that does not allow international elections observers to oversee the electoral process does so for a reason. The Supreme Council and Ayatollah Khamenei do not want change in any form in their country at all. The show of Democracy crumbles when the outcome does not go in the status quo's direction.
If we support the fight against the Status Quo here at home in America, then we should do so wherever people yearn to be free, people of any race or religion, whether their nation of origin is our ally or our perceived enemy.
That is what our founding fathers built this country on.
And that is how we will win "hearts and minds".
And that is how progress is made.
So I say stand with Iranians who oppose the fixed outcome of this stolen election. Show them our support. By supporting their freedom, we help maintain our own.
