John Ensign, Senator from Nevada (R) has resigned his position in the senate GOP leadership. He is not resigning from congress but is stepping down from the leadership. He was the #4 ranking member in the seante on the republican side. This is occuring the day after he announced he had an affair with the wife of one of his former staffers. according to his offical statement yesterday
Ensign had a "consensual affair" with a campaign staffer who was "married to an official Senate staffer," the statement from his office said.
He had called for Clinton to resign after the Lewinski issue but it should be noted he pointed out that
"He (Clinton) sent taxpayer-paid staff out to lie for him, and that is a misuse of office," Ensign said, adding that the president had "no credibility left."
The above quote is from the Washington Post.
Ensign had been to Iowa to perhaps raise his profile for a Presidential run. It seems that that option is now over. He does not look like he will step down but is giving up his leadership position. Will this be enough for voters, GOP faithful?
