I almost wrote this diary a few days ago, and decided I'd sit on it (read: forgot to write it). When I heard the ad again earlier today, I decided I should do some research.
I regularly listen to my local progressive station on my way to and from work. And I understand that due to their ongoing financial difficulties, they have to take ads from anyone willing to sponsor them, even if that's a dating service promoting infidelity.
But Ed Schultz has been saying things in some of the ads he does on the air which are direct, scathing attacks on Pres. Obama's record in office.
Quotes after the break.
The ad I'm talking about is for ITM trading, and Google found me a transcription of it on the internet here, at what I assume is a very conservative web site. Sorry, but that's who had it up.
Here is a direct link to the audio. Here is a link to Ed Schultz's website where he claims ITM trading as a sponsor.
So, here's the quotes:
SCHULTZ: Hi folks, this is Ed Schultz. You know, I’m convinced that everyone ought to own some gold today. Why? Well, because the dollar is traveling down the same road the German mark did in the early 1900s when it took a wheelbarrow full of money to buy a loaf of bread.
Is this not a shocking statement? This is the kind of thing I'd expect from a Ron Paul dead-ender, not someone out there pushing for the government to do more, like institute single-payer health care.
He goes on to say:
Financial experts everywhere say our financial system is broken and the bailouts necessary to fix our economy are undermining the dollar.
Got that? Everywhere, all the financial experts say the bailouts are undermining the dollar. I mean, where else could we look?
In conclusion:
Since the dollar hit its peak in July of 2001, it lost over 41 percent to its most recent low while gold went up over 278 percent. I’m afraid the trillions needed in stimulus today to battle deflation are going to turn into runaway inflation, so don’t wait.
How can this not be taken as a direct attack on Pres. Obama's policies? And furthermore, can this really be described as anything but a wild conspiracy theory?
Ed, I love you, but next time a would-be sponsor hands you a script with crap like this on it, tell 'em to take a hike.
