Yeah, I know. Seems like right wingers like to toss out Godwin's Law any chance they get when it comes to our President. So it's not that surprising, but...given this is a local issue for me, I thought I'd point it out, particularly as the health care debate is raging.
As we push for a public option in health care plan, The Republican Women of Anne Arundel County (Maryland) want you to know that, well, Barack Obama and Adolf Hitler a lot alike:
Dear Friends:
Obama and Hitler have a great deal in common in my view. Obama and Hitler use the "blitzkrieg" method to overwhelm their enemies. FAST, CARPET BOMBING intent on destruction. Hitler’s blitzkrieg bombing destroyed many European cities – quickly and effectively. Obama is systematically destroying the American economy and with it AMERICA. First the banking/investment industry, next private enterprise (GM and Chrysler) and now HEALTH CARE. And he is working on grabbing more of the American economy with his environmental extremism!
Sigh. Never mind that the comparison isn't even close...but logic doesn't stop this post.
Rather than go through all the inaccuracies with regards to what the post says about the health care plan moving through Congress, I just want to give this "Hitler" thing a little more sunlight. (Although I encourage folks who know much more about the health care debate than I do to click on the link above and give a rundown about what is horribly off in their analysis.) This is not some fringe group...the Republican Women of Anne Arundel County are very well funded and a pretty prominent organization in Anne Arundel County politics.
For an organization which such stature in the Republican Party to compare the President to Hitler and Obama's policies to a "blitzkrieg" is appalling.
So, this diary is short, primarily to get the story out there and get some good folks to fire up those LTEs and e-mails to call on them to take it off their front page.
Thank ya.
