The GOP stands with the people of Iran in their struggle against tyranny but against the majority of the American people in their struggle to achieve a public option.
Eric Cantor (R-VA) said, "We stand with the people of Iran in their struggle to participate in a democratic election and who deserve the right to freely assemble and voice their opposition to its questionable outcome."
Mike Pence (R-IN) said, "It is appropriate for the leader of the free world at this time to speak a word of encouragement to those dissidents in the street."

I've been struck by the extent to which the GOP asserts that it stands with the people of Iran, that the will of the people must be respected -- in Iran. It's more than a little curious that the GOP is so inclined to ignore the will of the people here in America, where most polls show that more than 60% of Americans wish to see a public option included in any health care reform.

The problem is that the GOP appears dead set against any type of public option. How can the GOP be so much in support of the Iranian people and so much against their own?
ThinkProgress has Grassley saying "No Public Option"
A political party that castigates other governments for ignoring the wishes and desires of its people, that itself wants to subvert the wishes and desires of its own people does not have the interests of its people at heart. The GOP has shown itself to be for the people 'when convenient', and for their corporate sponsors otherwise.
In fact, any politician of either major party who is against a strong, un-triggered public option has shown themself to be working not for but against the interests of the majority of Americans.
