Well, we didn't get a heck of a lot of people to our little event. We had a rather "tough crowd" whizzing past us on Topanga Canyon Boulevard, who were somewhat stingy with approving honks. We got one thumbs-down, but thankfully nobody flipped us off.
Well, we WERE rather close to the Belly of the Beast, Warner Center, where many of the so-called "Health Insurance" industry giants have either their national headquarters or their west coast headquarters. Photos and more thoughts below the fold.
(warning...lotsa big pix)
Here's the view from where we made our stand, the corner of Topanga Canyon Blvd. and Califa St. in Woodland Hills, the northwest corner of Warner Center Park.
One of the silver towers you see in this picture was AIG West Coast US headquarters up until all too recently.
I brought my '70s vintage reproduction Betsy Ross flag to the event. Why not? Yeah, conservatives have made the US Flag a symbol of their side, of jingoism and reaction since the second decade of the 20th Century of the Common Era. But the thing is...it's our flag too. Liberals should take back our flag, revel in it, fly it at events, treat it with respect.
Here's Shockwave, who's actually been pushing this event harder than I have...what a guy...
Next month we'll have more legible signs. I was hoping people would bring some, but luckily I brought markers and poster board and we were covered. Shockwave had the right idea printing this one out on a laser printer.
Shockwave, a couple of his friends, and one other person than me showed up at the event. 5 people. Not a huge turnout. But at least we did it. Hopefully next time, which will be July 31, 2009, we'll have more people, more signs, and more fun. Fun is one of the priorities here, as it should be.
What do I want to accomplish with this next time? For one thing, I want to get the word out more, get more excitement going, set up some tables at local events and get the word out. For another thing, I want to get the media to sit up and take notice.
And for yet another thing...I'm starting to fade and I'm going to turn in. This was a big day for me.
