According to the BBC, in a so far unconfirmed report from the Fars News Agency, eight members of the British Embassy in Tehran, Iran have been arrested for playing a part in the demonstrations that broke out after the ridiculous farce of an election in Iran.
I've personally checked the Fars News Agency english language site and have found no mention of the UK embassy staffers being arrested, but they don't always update all local stories right away. Again, this story is unsubstantiated. Fars News Agency
From BBC:
Iran has detained eight local staff at the British embassy in Tehran on accusations of having a role in post-election riots, local reports said.
The embassy has not yet confirmed the report from the semi-official Fars news agency, which did not name its source.
Relations between the countries are strained after Tehran accused the UK of inflaming unrest, which London denies.
Please go read the entire short story on this, as it would seem if this turns out to be true, the Iranian Government may have truly overstepped their normally insane overreacting to anything that might chip away at their power and have gone into extreme madness mode by continuing to blame the UK and the west for their horribly mangled election hijacking.
Also see this story on the subject from Canada.com as well as this report from Sky News.
For an unconfirmed report, it sure is getting a lot of play.
UPDATE:
Iran has detained eight local staff at the British embassy in Tehran on accusations of having a role in post-election riots, local reports said.
UK Foreign Secretary David Miliband demanded their release, saying the arrests were "quite unacceptable".
