Today's title reflects both the sounds last heard in the Blogistan Polytechnic Institute hot tub faculty lounge - it seems they had a generous dose of our motto Magis vinum, magis verum ("More wine, more truth") - and one of this week's planned topics. Our faculty are not alone in their penchant for howling at the moon.
More below the fold....
Before we turn to last night's and this week's howlings, we thank last week's lecturers. Last Tuesday, Professor of Juronursinfosystology FarWestGirl offered an important discussion of Choices Surrounding Life and Death, and last Wednesday, Professor of Mediamaternity theKgirls gave a very moving talk on Fear and Loathing in MA. If you missed either, please give them a read.
This Wednesday, Professor of Psycholegalese kktlaw will ask When Will the Professor of Astrology Janitor Return My Transformer Undies? Whom Do You Know?, inviting a discussion of our encounters with celebrities and other notables. We're sure everyone will want to attend, with the possible exception of the Professor of Astrology Janitor, but Chef get him there because she'll make him help set up refreshments (and return the undies).
Note: We currently have no guest lecturers for next Tuesday or Wednesday (July 7-8). Also, the resident faculty will be away the following week, from Sunday, July 12th to Sunday, July 19th (inclusive). Pootie the Precious will do "Ask Ms. Crissie" on those Sundays, and LI Mike will offer a three-day series on local government from Thursday-Saturday (July 16-18). We currently have no guest lecturers for Monday-Wednesday of that week (July 13-15). If you would like to offer a guest lecture on any of these dates, or any Tuesday or Wednesday, please volunteer in a comment below.
As for the rest of this week, tomorrow will be a light day - in the sense of levity rather than which loads of laundry the Professor of Astrology Janitor is processing - with a Tinfoil Tuesday conspiracy theory that the faculty were certain of, at least while they were howling at the moon. Please take it with an ocean full of salt, as our impression was that it is far more wine than truth.
From Thursday to Saturday, Blogistan Polytechnic Institute will join with other Orange Blogistanis in focusing on the environment. Thursday we'll explore the plight and promise of grey wolves, and Friday and Saturday we'll look at projected carbon footprints in mass transportation. Some surprising new research suggests mass transportation is not automatically "green," and whether it reduces our carbon footprint depends on whether and how well it is optimized in use.
If you are interested in environmental issues, please join DK GreenRoots, a new environmental advocacy group created by Meteor Blades. DK GreenRoots is comprised of bloggers at Daily Kos and eco-advocates from other sites. We focus on a broad range of issues. We alert each other to important eco-stories in the mainstream media and on the Internet, promote bloggers at one site to readers at other sites and discuss crucial eco-issues. We are in exciting times now because for the first time in years, significant environmental legislation will be passed by Congress. DK GreenRoots can also be used to apprise members of discussions and strategy sessions happening in Meteor Blade’s Green Diary Rescue thread, which is also our workroom. |
