I've been living in DC for long enough, to have profound contempt for the standard Beltway question, "So what do you do?". I find this is a much better question for getting to know people, and starting interesting conversations. I'm occasionally disappointed, by people who can't answer the question. And grateful to those who not only answer it, but turn around and ask me what my last most beautiful thing was.
"Waking up", is a popular answer, and one that I always celebrate. But from the DK tribe, I'm expecting a bit better. The last most beautiful thing that I did was last night's run, in the dark, on an island, after a storm. The path was moonlit, and streaked by fireflies, forest and marsh and river, wet-alive with the passing storm, distant rumbles and flares of thunder and lightning, the electric scent of a downpour on a summer night.
So how about you, what's the last most beautiful thing that you did?
