I sat there listening to Sarah Palin's speech; it made no sense. It made even less sense after the second hearing, and less still after the third hearing. It suddenly occurred to me why the speech sounded so incoherent.
more after the break
The purported logic of Palin's speech is as follows:
- I have decided not to run for re-election.
- That makes me a lame duck.
- I'll be more effective working from the outside.
- Therefore I'm resigning as governor (and I've explained my reasons).
Well, no she didn't ... but that's the logic of the speech-as-delivered. Her speech is incoherent simply because it doesn't reflect her true reality.
Here's what I believe is the real logic of her situation (pieced together from various diaries here - along with my own intuition):
- I'm about to be indicted.
- I'm going to resign as I'll be ineffective as Governor with all my legal problems.
- Therefore I'm not going to run for re-election.
