One of the great all time albums by The Who. But more to the point, given the almost regular implosions we've been seeing among Republican governors since Obama took office, it's something I can't help wondering about since Sarah Palin's bizarre resignation yesterday. Who's Next to go down in flames?
First there was Bobby Jindal, who apparently thought that the best way to establish himself as a national political figure was to follow an Obama speech by impersonating Kenneth the Page.
Then Rick Perry decided thatmaybe secession was the best way to go.
Ah-nold, of course, can't even pay the bills in California.
Then Mark Sanford, one of the most visible opponents of Obama's stimulus plan, revealed he was pursuing his own stimulus package in Argentina. All that's been missing there is Oprah and the couch.
Now, Palin reminds us once again that she is well, Sarah Palin.
Obama's been in office five months, more or less. Since then, five GOP governors have crashed and burned in spectacular, sometimes horrifying fashion. Is the stress of actually governing getting to them? Are they realizing that GOP sound bites and platitudes actually do not work in reality? Were they all just a bit nutty to begin with?
Note that this list doesn't even include Members of Congress (Ensign) or party officials (Michael Steele), so clearly, this is a much wider phenomenon.
So Who's Next? Which GOP governor will be the next to crater? And why?
I thinkIntrade and Iowa Economic Markets need to get in on this.
