The light show that Nature provides every day is vastly more impressive than the explosion-bang-bang of July 4th ...

Humans are entertained by destruction while Nature is perpetually at work creating, destroying and creating again. Today's beauty:
Rainy Sunrise
Woodpecker Nest
Newborn Green Herons
I've got to tell you, one day is never like any other. I've spent decades watching the sun rise and set and each and every one is unique.
Just think ... I could have spent the day engaged in a futile argument with someone else on the Internet. Or I could have spent these many hours obsessing over Sarah Palin, the Has-Been-Never-Been.
I did spend a little time following the comments regarding Sarah Palin scattered on various newspapers and blogs across the Internet. What these comments -- numbering in the 10,000s -- indicate is that there actually is very little that can be said about Sarah Palin and all those potential comments have already been exhausted.
The full range of humankind's creative thought is finite and very limited. Humankind's creativity is several orders of magnitude smaller than Nature's.
So people spend all of their time shouting at each other and they never realize that they are merely saying the same thing over and over and over again. The shouting match must serve some purpose ... a temporary distraction from the troubles of life, a means of relieving pent up stress and anger, or perhaps it is a vicarious act of violence.
I would encourage people to live in a different manner but such a message is futile. People who love peace live peacefully ... but who really loves peace? Once the emotions enter into an argument rationality leaves and the shouting begins.
This pattern of behavior isn't limited to the Internet. If you happen to spend any time reading history you'll discover that humns have behaved in the same manner for thousands of years.
It is a rather miserable way for a self-proclaimed "intelligent animal" to live. If humans were at all intelligent and if our species actually did possess free will undoubtedly humankind would live differently.
