Sarah Palin's reasons for her sudden resignation have been very murky, at best. Her intentions for what comes next have been a mystery, as well. One thing, however, is clear as a bell: Sarah Palin has more ambition than brains and beauty put together.
With different members of her staff, the GOP, and even the media all claiming different things on different days, it's no wonder things are up in the air. Does she want another crack at the big league? Does she want a lucrative carrer in the media? Does she just want to "settle down" into Grannyhood? Ok, so that last one isn't gonna happen. But her only options for preserving the spotlight that we all know she craves like a cat can haz cheezeburgers are the first two listed. Politics or Punditry.
Given her penchant for gettin' while the gettin's good, most people might assume the later. She'd be good with her lines (hello teleprompter, goodbye word salad), is attractive enough for TV, and could be surrounded by a positive bubble who thinks she does no wrong, and would have millions of adoring fans. Not to mention the money.
But is the money enough? I think that somewhere in her reptilian brain, she needs fame, and she equates being president with fame. Not power or money, lasting fame. The kind of fame that you have when a hundred years from now your name is taught to schoolkids and history books celebrate (or downplay) your deeds. Diamonds are a girl's best friend, but fame is forever.
And then there is this, from HuffPo today:
Palin also sent several Twitter updates Wednesday. One said, "Today, try this, Act in accordance to your conscience risk by pursuing larger vision in opposition to popular, powerful pressure."
Could be talking about anything. As one commenter said: "Sounds like a saying from her Quote of the Day Calendar". But look again. Pursuing [a] larger vision in opposition to popular, powerful pressure. I'm pretty sure I have not heard any repubs calling for her to stay OUT of the spotlight. As far as I know, they may be indeed pushing her into an entertainment career. But I know of several who are calling her political ambitions toast. On HuffPo alone there are several articles from other Goopers- Steele says 2012 is off the table, no one (cough VA, NJ cough, cough) seems to want her campaigning for them, Huck and Rove have recently slammed her.
All of the little things are adding up to a major play by Palin, probably in opposition to what the leaders of the GOP want. After all, she's a Mavericky, buck-the-system kind of Gal!
