Yesterday's revelation that former Vice-president Dick Cheney ordered the Central Intelligence Agency to withhold vital information from the legally authorized members of Congress regarding a super-secret counter-intelligence program was the last piece of evidence proving that the United States of America from January 20, 2001 until January 20, 2008 was, in reality, a dictatorship. And that the dictator was Dick Cheney.
"In contemporary usage, dictatorship refers to an autocratic form of absolute rule by leadership unrestricted by law, constitutions, or other social and political factors within the state."
We knew almost from the beginning of the so-called "Bush presidency" that the boy who would be king was in effect a puppet whose strings were pulled by Cheney. Bush had as much ability and intelligence to be president as Sarah Palin had when she came close to being a President John McCain's successor. From the very beginning the neocon cabal's goal was to install a figurehead leader in the White House in order to finally achieve the power to accomplish their agenda. We knew the deck was stacked when Cheney was chosen to lead the "search" for Bush's running mate. It came as no surprise that he chose himself for that position.
Having mastered the arts of political and governmental manipulation during the course of his long career, Cheney was the ideal leader of the new America. His ruthlessness, his bullying, his lack of any sense of morality made him the only logical choice. And with the catastrophe of September 11, 2001, the United States was his oyster. By the co-opting of the country's new found fear of imminent death and destruction from terrorists, Cheney was able to steam-roll his plan for the complete overthrow of America's constitutional form of government through every branch of government.
Aided and abetted by his like-minded group of followers both inside and outside the government, Cheney was able to effect the de facto establishment of a dictatorship in the United States. It was almost too unbelievable that all the factors needed for such an accomplishment seemed to suddenly coalesce. With a totally subservient and compliant Congress both Democrats and Republicans, a post traumatic electorate, and a executive branch whose workers were terrified and cowed by him, Cheney could literally rule the country. Which he did for eight devastating years.
The only issue remaining for America now that she has once again been returned to democratic rule is when Cheney and his henchmen will be called to account for their treasonous overthrow of the United States government.
