At last! Senator Franken graces C-Span. Video and initial observations over the fold.
My first thoughts:
- Senator Franken was completely at ease. There's no doubt he belongs in that august body. He was poised, professional and polite.
- Sessions looked like he was going to cry when Franken spoke to him. I'm sure he knew this day was inevitable, but he looked like he was swallowing his own tongue behind his clenched teeth!
- Senator Franken specifically mentioned his "predecessor, Paul Wellstone." He couldn't have a better role model!
Your thoughts? I don't know about you guys, but I'm jazzed!
Update: Your thoughts on Franken's view of judicial activism and the separation of powers? He's totally cool with empathy, but defines an activist judge as one who doesn't show "deference" to the will of congress.
Update 2: As semblance notes downthread, Franken specifically mentions net neutrality in his remarks. Given that this is his senatorial debut, so to speak, I don't think that's a throw away line. I'm going to choose to see it as a hint at some strong advocacy on this issue in Franken's future.
