From the St. Pete Times web site:
ST. PETERSBURG — Federal agents are raiding a St. Petersburg defense contractor that provides equipment for the U.S. military and NASA.
Conax Florida Corp., which has about 220 employees, is at 2801 75th St. N.
The Defense Criminal Investigative Service is executing a search warrant with the assistance of other agencies including: the Naval Criminal Investigative Service, Immigration and Customs Enforcement, the Air Force Office of Special Investigations and the offices of inspector general with NASA and the Department of Transportation.
More below the fold...
What does this have to do with Congressman Young you might ask? Here it is:
"In 1987, the Navy awarded Conax an $8.2 million contract to produce 31,000 explosive devices that are used to automatically inflate a pilot's life vest when it enters water. At the time, the Department of Defense credited Conax equipment with helping save the lives of 180 Navy and Air Force pilots since 1981, said U.S. Rep. C.W. Bill Young, R-Largo, who has often earmarked money for the company.
In 2008, Young got the company $4 million for a restraint system and another $2.4 million for similar equipment."
Conax employees have donated money to Congressman Young's campaign, so this story could have legs beyond the fact that a defense contractor's office was raided. It's my understanding that the newspapers are all over this and more might come out tomorrow.
Stay tuned... (oh, and please support my friend Democratic State Senator Charlie Justice who is running against Young.
