Team meetings are generally predictable and boring. Here's one way to liven things up a bit.
The team meeting today went well. My boss discussed how we were giving away some of our busy work items - something I've been advocating for some time. I did a presentation on how we are managing outsourcer metrics - which will have huge impact on the bottom line. And one of my coworkers discussed a tool he had put together to get early detection of telephone routing issues at one of our domestic outsourcers.
Meetings have changed since I started in business forty years ago. Then, they were formal events with an agenda and set of objectives. Today, it is a collection of people with laptops and Blackberries who go "What?" when they weren't really listening to an item that is important to their job.
This time, it was my boss. During the last presentation, he got very distracted, and was typing furiously on his laptop. When the presentation was over, he said, "New topic. I've just accepted a new job."
