So, yeah, that's pretty absurd, right? But not by the logic of comments made by Kansas Rep Tiahrt, though. In his mind, the only thing stopping people from a non-stop abortion party is the fact that it costs money. Not the emotional pain of choosing to terminate that comes even when the decision is "easy", such as in cases where the developing fetus is deformed and not even likely to survive to term anyway. Not the physical pain of the procedure, not the potential health risks of it, no, it's just the money.
I'm a t-shirt person by habit and by trade. I made and wore a shirt saying "Stop the War on American Values: Impeach Bush" in 2003, first worn at the Howard Dean rally in Falls Church, VA, and last worn two days before Obama was inaugurated. I made the "I See Dean People" shirts during the 2003/2004 primary season, and a bunch of others in between. T-shirts are my favourite method of expression, especially when it's a subject about which I feel so strongly. Join me after the jump for more info on how I plan to use this shirt...
I've made one of these for myself, and I'm selling them on my site, but I am not just posting here to get free advertising in the guise of a diary. Here's my plan, my goal--for every one of these someone buys this week (or at least until the idiot apologizes) I will also send one of these shirts to Rep Tiahrt's office as well. Since I live in Alexandria, maybe I can even hand-deliver them...
For those who might think otherwise:
This shirt is in no way making light of the serious subject of abortion. Just the opposite, in fact--it is pointing out just how absurd the logic of many in the anti-abortion movement can be.
