I keep hearing the "centrist" Democrats on the news. I keep hearing about the "Blue Dog" Democrats and how they are trying to appease their base.
Who is their base?
It appears to me that they if they are walking a tight rope then they should probably not stir up the main core of their base....
Also if we get 50,000,000 more people on healthcare, how many more jobs will this create? HOW much more money will this dump into the economy? These would be jobs that would not be outsourced overseas!!
These would be American jobs that would last for at least 30 years (until the life of the baby boomer era).
So this is a no brainer and a win win for the American public, the Democratic party and a lose lose for anyone who opposes it...
This isn't a polarizing issue like abortion or religion. The public option is an issue that the majority of Americans support. One could argue that by supporting the public option it would support a "pro-life" stance in which more people would be saved physically and financially given the state of managed care today.
The Blue Dogs aka "conservative Democrats" aren't worried about losing their base because I can assure them that they stand more to lose if they continue to side with the GOP on this isssue than if they appease their solid base of Democrats who want the public option!!!
It's beginning to scare me when I talk to other Democrats who volunteered for Obama, Bingaman (Senator in New Mexico), Tom Udall (Jr. Senator from New Mexico) and some of the Congress people. I am hearing statements like "they are all the same, this isn't change, they are caving in to the corporations, I may not vote this next election cycle, I may not donate a cent and screw those bastards."
What the "blue dogs" haven't seen (and I blame this on the lack of leadership and strong arming from Harry Reid, Nancy Pelosi and the Obama Administration) is that these few are going to really hurt their party and President if they don't stop sitting on the fence and caving to the special interests.
They don't realize that many Democrats like myself, don't just give to New Mexico Dems (my home state) but we donate to other canidates. I personally donated to 3 other canidates in close elections to help gain a majority. I donated big time to the Obama camp.
The Blue Dogs had better put up, shut up or jump parties otherwise Progressives like myself will be sure to remind voters who they were come election time...
It's their move but I can guarantee them, if they waiver on some of the issues that we demanded change and they don't deliver, It's gonna hurt in 2010 and 2012. I can guarantee it!!
