I just heard Tweety bring up the abortion issue for the 3rd straight time in as many days when questioning a White House Representative on the Health Care Bill.
He wanted assurance that the bill will honor the Hyde Amendment and not use any Federal money for abortions. He framed the question as, "What about all those people who oppose abortion? Will their tax dollars go to pay for abortions?"
Attention Mr. Matthews. I oppose the Iraq war. Can I have my money back?
I oppose drilling for oil in the coastal waters. Can I have my subsidies back?
That entire argument is a straw man, designed to agitate the ignorant and painfully stupid.
I don't get any say in how my tax money is spent, except on that day when I pull the lever for an elected official.
So why, is this self-proclaimed "political expert" deliberately raising straw men to drive home his personal opposition to abortion?
Of all of the issues to be negotiated in the health care legislation, abortion is the most divisive and least relevant.
Let's call Chris Matthews out on this one. He is deliberately using his public platform to stir the pot promoting his own personal belief system.
Health care is not about abortion.
It is not about Chris Matthews and his Catholic prejudices.
Bombard his office with complaints and tell him to stop dragging abortion into this highly technical and hard fought discussion.
