There is one serious driving force behind opposition to the Obama Administration's push to implement a public health care option. It's not republicans, or conservatives, or people who rationally believe that this is a bad idea. It's the health care industry. They're the ones funding the opposition lobby, they're the ones churning out the fear-mongering talking points, and donating generously to those politicians and talking heads who do so on their behalf. They're the ones doing their damndest to shut down public health care, because it will cut into their profits.
The current situation lets them set the prices, and lets them cherry-pick the most profitable clients, the most profitable protocols for managing their client's health care costs. This is in full accordance with the Invisible Hand of the Market Theory which pretends to magically make rational decisions that are in the best interests of the consumer, but Always ALWAYS makes profits for the vendor who provides the most convincing appearance of value.
Emo Philips once said, "I used to think that the brain was the most wonderful organ in my body. Then I realized who was telling me this.". The health care industry is spending millions of dollars to tell us that they're the best way to provide health care to the american public. If you can't afford it, tough. If they can find a graceful way to eject you, if you become too much of a liability, tough. If anyone intrudes on their very profitable model, tough.
Why? Because they're not doing health care, in order to improve the general health of the population. They're doing it for the same reason that Walmart sells things made in China, for the same reason that America used slaves, for the same reason that Bush invaded Iraq, for the same reason that drove most of the characters in Joseph Conrad's "Nostromo". Material interests.
Actions that will profit those who are greedier and more powerful than they are moral, will always be aggressively marketed to the general public, by those who can profit from those actions, and whatever lackeys they can buy or manipulate. That's the Invisible Hand. The swirling maelstrom of opposition to public health care has been summoned up, bought and paid for, by those who profit most from the current arrangement. Those who profit most from excluding 46 million from affordable health care. Those who profit most from bankrupting consumers who have become liabilities and can be kicked to the street based on technicalities. Those who can't afford, or are too weak, to fight the Invisible Hand, and are in the way of Material Interests.
There's one dominant reason why there's such strong opposition to a public health care option, and that has nothing to do with concerns for the American taxpayer, the financial stability of the United States, or any political or ideological principles but the material interests of individuals and corporations that prefer the status quo. That strong opposition is the best argument for Obama's push for a public health care option - the fact that these insanely greedy and morally deficient individuals and entities are trying to stop it. It's fundamental proof the Obama is on the right track.
If the Obama's public health care initiative was more profitable to the plutocrats and profiteers, the greedy scavengers of the easily deluded public, there would be much more support for it. Support just like there was for the recent gutting of the US manufacturing industry for the profit of Walmartian tycoons, like there was for slavery long after it was recognized to be a moral abomination, like there was for invading Iraq despite clear evidence throughout that there was no good reason for it. Material Interests.
Material Interests have decided that American children should suffer and die from easily treated diseases. Material Interests have decided that emergency rooms should serve as primary care for those who have to choose between feeding their family and filling their prescriptions. Material Interests have decided that they will do everything in their power, and buy all those that can be bought, manipulate all those that can be manipulated, to ensure that their bank accounts, their yearly profits of millions and billions, won't be challenged or compromised by an initiative to care for the needy, the desperate, the sick, by a president, and public servants, and politicians, and citizens, who have decided that America can do better.
There is a choice here, between Material Interests, and societal well being. Between a second or third yacht, and health-care for all.
