Everyone should take a deep breath and calm down. Yes, we are all disappointed that the Senate won't vote on its version of the bill until September. But, frankly, this is not the end of the world. Remember, just because the Senate or the House vote on their version of the bill doesn't necessarily mean that the bill would become law.
It is true that the opposition will have August to try to kill health care reform. But guess what: they would have done it no matter what, even if there were two bills approved by the House and the Senate. What is important is exactly what Obama says: make sure that the politicians are working on the bill and that it gets passed this fall. We need to apply pressure on red state Dems, such as Baucus and Co. to keep them in line.
I trust that health care reform will pass this year. It's just too high of a priority for Obama, as it's one of his signature issues. If it doesn't pass, it will be viewed as his huge failure, and he will do everything he can to make sure this doesn't happen. He's not stupid.
What is more important is that the reform has public option component. While Obama is for it, it may be one of the bargaining chips that he may use UNLESS we, and others, make it absolutely clear that public option MUST be a part of the deal. That's why we need to keep pressure on Democrats.
Again, everyone, don't panic; don't succumb to stupid press narrative that Obama is crumbling. Keep working and we will get it done.
Update
Murtha says the Health Care Reform bill will hit the House next week. Not sure if it will happen, but this is definitely possible. House Action Next Week?
