I know its hard to focus on everything at once. There's Healthcare but also the economy, we still have a couple of wars going on, theres that global warming thing, actually getting the clean coal clean, actually getting a rate cap on the fees credit card companies are charging in the consumer credit bill, putting the polar bears back on the endangered species list, cleaning up after the Bush administration so we get at least the innocent detainees out of GITMO before we pass a bill assuming guilt for some individuals and then making their indefinitie detention without a trial legal.
I could use some help compiling a list. There are those Justice Department investigations of the last administrations kidnapping, torture, and murder for example and some high crimes and misdeameanors such as lying to Congress...
What do we really need a Congress for if they can't get anything important done? Maybe a better question might be what's more important to them than going on vacation, getting re-elected, collecting millions in campaign contributions from lobbiests, ensuring that some of the government's bailouts, pork, and spending is coming home with them, and having the taxpayers pay for them to fly first class to some tropical vacation rendevous with their mistress.
Why are there several thousand think tanks out there engaged in drafting legislation that looks like it was written by the Bush administration because the same people are writing it for us Democrats to sign off on.
In the past I wasn't all that happy with how we had staffed the Supreme Court but I thought Sotomayor was a step in the right direction. That said how come we are still arguing cases like we were the Bush administration?
Its hard to be pleased with the performance of the various departments of the executive branch either. Why are we waiting six months to close the door on Bush administration efforts to go uranium mining in the Grand Canyon, oil drilling in public parks, take endangered species off the endangered species list, put an end to the clearcutting of our old growth forests and why are we even now busy cutting the balls off the EPA with our ACES legislation; allowing loopholes in our tobacco legislation, still avoiding transparency in the affairs of our agents abroad.
Why did the President of the United States put Stanley McCrystal in charge of our efforts in Afghanistan? This is the guy that was boots on the ground there in charge in 2001 when our allies in the Northern Alliance joined with us in killing a couple of thousand Taliban prisoners after General Dostums victory at Masr-e-sharif resulted in the capture of John Walker Lindh, the tearing apart of CIA agent Mike Spann by an angry mob of detainees, and our calling in airstrikes on the prison the detainees were kept in.
Why hasn't Holder been able to procede faster against the likes of Cheney and John Yoo? Why hasn't Geitner been able to keep AIG from giving out hundreds of millions in bonuses.
