This is an open letter to all the birthers regarding the relative value of legal documents.
When I joined the Marines over 30 years ago I needed to get a certified copy of my birth certificate. Apparently the birth certificate issued by the hospital with my footprints on the back wasn't good enough for the U.S. Government. The copy I received was a photocopy of the form the hospital had sent to the County with an embossed seal and the signature of the County Clerk. It had my parents names, address, dates of birth, etc.
Fast forward to about four years ago. In the intervening years I had lost that certified copy of my birth certificate. I wrote a letter, paid a fee, and ordered a new copy. The new copy is quite different than the one I had previously. This new copy doesn't even have the words "birth certificate" on it. At the top it says "CERTIFICATION OF VITAL RECORD". It doesn't have my parents names or their birth dates or their address. It simply has a birth number, my name, date of birth, the location of my birth, the date it was originally filed, and the date they issued this copy.
My reason for needing this document was that I moved from Illinois to Wisconsin and had to get a new drivers license. My new state had a list of acceptable documents that I could use in order to identify myself and establish residency. I went in there fully armed with my new birth certificate, my DD214 from the USMC, my Illinois Drivers License, and my new lease. I was turned away. It turns out I needed my social security card and a utility bill in my name with my new address. I pointed out that both my IL Drivers License and my DD214 had my SSN on them. Long story short I jumped through their hoops and got the documentation they required.
The point I want all the birthers to understand is that the hospital birth certificate with the footprints on the back isn't a legal document at all. It's a keepsake that's not worth the paper it's printed on except for sentimental value. Certified copies of legal documents such as my DD214 (which also has an embossed seal and a signature) and my lease were worthless when the Government entity I was dealing with wouldn't accept them.
You birthers are not a Government Agency. What you want is irrelevant. Mr. Barrack Hussein Obama has provided all the documentation required to prove his citizenship (and legitimacy as the 44th President of the United States) to the relevant Federal Government entities.
So STFU!
