Obama struggled to provide concise answers the other day, but I think the whole thing can be expressed briefly enough. I have summarized the debate in just 85 words.
Can you beat that? Use the comments to write an even better summary in 85 words or less (hyphenated words count as one, but contractions are disallowed).
Health care costs too much. Obama proposes six cost-control measures:
*Eliminate redundant treatments
*Eliminate excessive profits
*Favor less expensive treatments
*Increase preventive care
*Minimize cost of covering uninsureds
*Eliminate ineffective treatments
That last bullet is opponents' opportunity for scaremongering. Wonks question whether the sum is enough to reduce costs. Superwonks say better care merely defers costs, so later we will see more geriatric care. Republicans would kill it for sport. Blue dogs have been bought. Now we will find out where the power truly lies.
