A short diary for I need to run. Litter box duty calls.
I'm seeing lots of diaries here and there : predicting the end of the recession, predicting no end to the recession, predicting there never was a recession(well, maybe I haven't seen that one lately). Always lots of charts and analysis by very well-informed and intelligent people.
And comments. And arguments. And some name-calling.
I'm not as well-informed. My intelligence has been called into question. I've made my share of good and bad economic decisions.
And to me this is when the recession will end...
When Daveparts is no longer a lagging indicator.
When triciawyse can afford to live in a place where she can have a cat.
When makettle's kitchen is no longer depressed.
When farmerchuck can make a living at one of the most important jobs on earth.
When reretiree writes about his no-longer-homeless friends.
When Muskegon Critic can write more diaries about the beauty of Michigan and fewer about its despair.
When "I have a job" becomes an overused diary title.
I could go on and on; there are so many names.
Charts and trends, number and analysis are very important in economics. But you can't eat them or use them to buy food. Economics is about people you see in a store or sit next to at the car repair shop. It's people whose stories you've read, people you've never met. People who have contributions to make to society, and instead have to worry about where they're going to get their next meal. I think sometimes that's forgotten by the powers that be.
I don't think we forget that here. I hope we never will.
So when will the recession end? Hopefully, soon. I have a chart that says so :)
Take care, Kossacks.
