Reid: Sotomayor to get fewer votes than Roberts
Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-Nev.) blasted Senate Republicans for being out of step with the country and conceded Wednesday that Supreme Court nominee Sonia Sotomayor would win fewer votes than Chief Justice John Roberts.
"It appears today we’re going to get a handful of Republicans," Reid told reporters during a press conference with the leaders of civil rights groups. "I hope that my prediction is wrong. I hope we get half the Republicans. It would be great to get 20 Republicans. With very rare exception, Republicans in the United States Senate do not represent mainstream Republicans in this country," Reid added. (Emphasis mine)
Psst....HARRY.....If they're out of step with the rest of the country, why bend over backwards to work with them?
Seriously, Harry. Working with people that are "out of touch" only makes you appear so as well. Didn't your parents teach you about guilt by association?
Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid said Wednesday that he still wants to work with Republicans to craft a "bipartisan" health care reform package, despite a prior warning to the top Democratic negotiator that he should stop chasing GOP votes on the bill [...] "Democrats have said from the beginning of this Congress and throughout this debate that with the health of our economy and our citizens at stake [...and] I look forward to more Republicans joining us at the negotiating table."
(emphasis added)
You could have gotten a lot done sooner if you hadn't been so bipartisan-minded. I'm sure Al Franken would have appreciated you having his back!
In Sen. Harry Reid’s tribute, the Majority Leader said Coleman had been courteous and gentlemanly in his interactions, which included a protracted post-election standoff in which Reid several times backed down from vows to seat Franken early. (emphasis added)
You say Republicans are out of touch? Small tip: what you say better be the opposite of what they say! It helps us differentiate between you both when your words are different from theirs. You know you haven't succeeded at this when the industry you're trying to reform is using what you say as evidence that it won't happen!
'Reforming health care — and doing it the right way — is not just a health issue. It’s also an economic issue. ... It’s why we are committed to getting this right, not just getting it done by an arbitrary deadline,' Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-Nev.) said Monday in remarks delivered on the floor that strongly resembled Republican talking points. (emphasis added)
It's so bad you've won "Disappointing Democrat of the Week" at the Huffington post a record ELEVEN TIMES!
Which is why, for the record-breaking eleventh time, Harry Reid is hereby awarded the Most Disappointing Democrat Of The Week award. Perhaps after Pelosi is done over in the House, she could put a pair of steel-toed boots on and go over and kick some spinal integrity into Senator Milquetoast Reid. Just a suggestion.
There's been a lot of discussion around here about how to get not just MORE Democrats, but BETTER Democrats. So, Harry -- are you out of touch and part of the problem? Or are you part of the solution? You better decide before the primary!
P.S. -- it's not like I had to scour forever to find this stuff. This diary took 10 minutes to write, most of it formatting. The research took 3 minutes and a Google News search.
UPDATE: Thanks to mtperson for trying to rescue this diary. With healthcare reform getting full attention, I didn't expect this to get a lot of views. Thanks for helping it get more!
