This diary will be short because it's too hot to think of anything creative. I live near Seattle, and we are experiencing record high temperatures.  On Wednesday it was 105 where I live. Some areas near Seattle got up over 107.  I just checked the thermometer on my deck, and it's registering 102 at 2:00. Not only that, but we gots the humids.

It's not just that we're weather wimps in Seattle (though we are). According to the Seattle Times, only 12% of Seattle-area homes have air conditioning.  Jump down with me for more hot talk.

Today in Baghdad it's 114. One hundred fourteen freaking degrees!!!  Our soldiers can't duck into a mall, a movie theater or a bookstore to take advantage of complimentary air conditioning.  They can't take a cool shower when it becomes unbearable.  Instead, they carry around up to 50 pounds of gear while wearing body armor. Sometimes weeks go by between showers.

I'd say our troops are giving till it hurts, and then some.  How about you?  We're over 80% of our goal to raise $50,000 before NN09. So duck into that movie theater, but forget the popcorn and soda.  See? Easy five bucks for the troops.

Blue Jersey Mom also needs a few more volunteers at Netroots Nation.

Mojo Friday Guidelines

  1.   If you comment you have to recommend all comments. (in order to receive mojo you have to give mojo.  It's only good mojo manners.)
  1.  Everything you say may be taken as a joke (so if you ask a question, expect a silly answer)
  1.  You must recommend the diary (and pimp it unapologetically)
  1.  You don't have to comment to recommend.
  1.  You can't steal my idea (right, like that ain't goin' to happen)
  1.  Please, no pictures or YouTubes until after 300 comments. Now, after 300, use a little common courtesy and be responsible in the number.
  1.  Mojo mojo mojo mojo, mojo mojo mojo.
  1.  TexDem (our benevolent sponsor) and MKinTN (that's me) are not bound by the guidelines.  Heh.

Mojo Friday Time Shifters Goals (watered down from Mojo Friday Goals)

A. At least 40 different commenters and 300 comments by 2:00 PM PST.

B. 50 recommends for each comment, at least.

C. Get on the Recommended List (this requires some strategic planning by you guys, refer to guideline #3)

D. At least 50 diary recommends. 100 would be better, spread the word.

E. And always, fun fun fun.

F. Have at least 75% average participation rate as seen here in the Mojo Friday Postgame Comment by Yours Truly.

G. Have at least 10 kossacks over 90% participation (see here for some tips).

H. Overload the servers with recommends, not to mention dominate Top Comments Mojo list. (we do tend to mess with the site with all of our recommends at one time)(also, to dominate the Top Comments Top Mojo we need at least 50 comments with over 200 recommends, see guideline B)

I. That's enough for now. (Have a suggestion? Post it.)

MKinTN posted a diary to help everyone achieve greater success called How to Succeed at Mojo Friday Without Really Trying.
For those of you new to MF (Mojo Friday) we have our own lingo about a few things. Thank's to MF'er Jez (the link will explain) go to this diary for a little more fun and explanation. Official Mojo Friday Snecktionary.

NETROOTS FOR THE TROOPS

Our goal this year is $50,000.00 in cash or in-kind donations. We are looking for only corporate in-kind donations this year. So if you know of corporate contact let Donnamarie, VeloVixen, or TexDem know. We won't be taking small in-kind donations due to the logistics nightmare it presents. Pittsburgh is not Austin and we have different house rules at the convention site.

You can DONATE HERE to contribute to this worthy cause.

  Important Note on Successful Donations

Please make note that the thank you screen following any donation will not reflect a donation to NFTT, but rather Netroots Nation. Rest assured your donation WILL be forwarded to NFTT. For a little more peace of mind, you can note that the donation is intended for Netroots For The Troops in the comment section when you submit your contribution.

   Books for Soldiers

The question has come up several times, what about books? And the answer is, books are great! It's just that other organizations are more specialized in the collection and distribution of books to Iraq and Afghanistan. If you are interested in sending books, please consider checking out the Books for Soldiers Website. It is run by DKos's very own Stormbear and is a great resource for giving.

Please consider joining the  NFTT Facebook Group.    Invite your Facebook and non-Facebook friends.

More Tagging tips:

A tag is a way to search for this diary. If someone is searching for "Barack Obama," is this a diary they'd be trying to find?

Use a person's full name, without any title. Senator Obama may become President Obama, and Michelle Obama might run for office.

If your diary covers an election or elected official, use election tags, which are generally the state abbreviation followed by the office. CA-01 is the first district House seat. CA-Sen covers both senate races. NY-GOV covers the New York governor's race.

Tags do not compound: that is, "education reform" is a completely different tag from "education". A tag like "reform" alone is probably not meaningful.

Consider if one or more of these tags fits your diary: Civil Rights, Community, Congress, Culture, Economy, Education, Elections, Energy, Environment, Health Care, International, Labor, Law, Media, Meta, National Security, Science, Transportation, or White House. If your diary is specific to a state, consider adding the state (California, Texas, etc). Keep in mind, though, that there are many wonderful and important diaries that don't fit in any of these tags. Don't worry if yours doesn't.
