The Bush plan for Social Security was to privatize it, and it was an utterly evil plan to eventually bring about the end of the most important safety net that our society offers. It failed in large part due to declining support amongst senior citizens(who were smart enough to see it for what it is). The Grand Obstructionist Party has spent their time either working on a Birther bill or trying desperately to undermine the Democrats from President Obama down to Congressional Democrats. Rather than help govern, they seek to prevent effective governance by any means necessary.
Unfortunately, their relentless attacks on health-care reform have taken a toll on support amongst senior citizens. We need to fight back, and fight back hard.
The scare-tactics focused on senior citizens are pretty damn scary. Talk radio and irresponsible Representatives of the far-right(Congresswoman Foxx especially) have lied and smeared without shame and probably without asking for forgiveness from those they claim to worship.
Believers and non-believers can generally-agree about the ten commandments. They're pretty straight-forward(most of them, anyways). One of those commandments is one that all people can probably agree on, and that commandment is #9; thou shalt not bear false witness. To say something untruthful about someone that you know is not true(I.E., Republicans claiming that Pres. Obama and Cong. Dems want to kill grandma and grandpa to save money when they know that's not true) is a step-up from a blatant lie because it is about someone else. It is a dishonest attack upon another and should be called for what it is.
Democrats should push back hard on the Republicans and conservative talking-heads peddling this garbage, for their only goal is to stop us for the sake of political gain. The American people will be with us. It worked for then-candidate Hagan in North Carolina when then-Senator Liddy Dole tried to make Hagan out to be an atheist(which is not a bad thing..). Thou shalt not beat false witness is a powerful line amongst senior citizens who know their commandments(whether they be Jewish, Christian, or lapsed).
