But these debates should be fun.
I'm down in Texas, and though I lean liberal, I am going to cross over and vote for Kay Bailey Hutchinson in the Republican primary in 2010. Perry's just abysmal (he had as the head of an education board a creationist - strict creationist - for example), and though I'm not a huge Kay fan I think she'd be much better.
This could be THE primary of the 2010 cycle - two big Texas republican figures butting heads and boxing it out (analogy stolen from a Texas magazine cover)
It's surprising on the face of it that a sitting senator, in a secure seat, would resign (she's resigning sometime before next spring) to face off against a sitting governer of the same party, but I think it reflects just how conservative Perry is. Texas has been swinging slowly Democrat, in part because of the rising Hispanic population, and Perry is increasingly looking like he's too conservative and inept even for a state like Texas. If I recall, he was basically Bush's handpicked successor, and it looks like the mentor and student are both following similar paths.
(added as an edit - I'm a northerner originally so I haven't been around for the entire Perry debacle)
Edit2: The best part, in a way? Perry appoints Hutchinson's temporary Senate successor. Think he might pick someone she hates?
