Like many of you, I've written letters to my congressman and senators asking them to consider my (the majority American) view on health care reform.
I say "many." Why not "all?" Doesn't take long to write a little letter. I'll wait here. dum da dum... hmmm... da da dum...
Done? Good. On to my point.
Since, like many of you, I was a bit late in writing to my Republican representatives (2 out of 3), I was able to include a bit of commentary on not just the issue itself, but on recent events surrounding it, which I believe enhance the communication a little.
Following is the text to my Republican senator. Feel free to echo these sentiments if you wish or need, though you might want to write them in your own words.
Dear Sen. Vitter:
Seeing the growing, loud, mean-spirited and, most important, organized disruptions of public servants seeking input on health care reforms being considered in Congress, I find myself disheartened with my fellow citizens.
While I personally support meaningful reform, including a strong public option, I am willing to listen to thoughtful proposals from those whose views differ from my own.
The thugs who are busting up town hall meetings around the country, egged on by the likes of Rush Limbaugh and Robert MacGuffie, are not offering me the same consideration. They are also making your party the symbol of the worst elements of politics.
Whatever your views on reform--and I do hope you will consider the views of the overwhelming majority who support a public option--you must publicly renounce the tactics of these thugs. To do otherwise is to endorse them.
I hope to see a strong, public statement on this issue from you very soon.
Your constituent,
(Crashing Vor)
P.S. (for you, not the senator) Send letters snail mail to your representatives local offices; it's break time and they'll be hanging around the home place.
