Boy is August getting hot! Between the sun, ageless conservative anger, and the Birthers' inability to deal with the fact that a black man(mulatto, actually) is the President of the United States of America, many wonder how much more heat can arise both outside and inside the town halls being held by Democratic Congressmen(and women) and being disrupted by far-right lunatics who believe "just say no" is a sound policy. BarbinMD is thinking a lot about "the Extremes of Extremism". Republican Congressman Todd Akin of Missouri, meanwhile, is joking at his own town hall about lynchings.(hat tip to Talking Points Memo)
After joking about how some Democrats have almost got lynched, the Republican Congressman's fans broke out into enthusiastic laughter. And it doesn't stop there
"I would assume you're not approving lynchings, because we don't want to do that," Akin said, putting his hand to his neck in imitation of choking, which got audience laughing some more.
Emphasis mine.
Think that's hard to believe? Well, here's the hard-to-believe video.
Joking about lynchings is not okay. Joking about your colleagues and fellow Americans getting nearly-lynched is really not okay. The ugliness of this "sense of humor" is not really surprising when you consider some of the bull that conservatives have already endorsed(in the present and the past), but it shouldn't be condoned.
