77% of Americans want "Major Structural Changes" to Healthcare.
A new CNN Poll (pdf) from August 3 shows that in response to the question, Do you think it is or is not necessary to make major structural changes in the nation’s health care system in order to make sure that all Americans have health insurance? 77% said it was necessary.
And time and time again, a majority of the people want guaranteed healthcare for everyone.
So what's there to talk about? We have a plan, a nice plan, one that's not too expensive, and yet the knights who say "No!" continue their caterwauling. What's wrong, guys?
"Liar! Tyranny! Tyranny! Tyranny! Tyranny!"
OK, catch your breath. I see you feel passionately about this. What are your concerns?
"Socialized medicine with force euthanasia and long lines and government bureaucracy and 40 million immigrants and the DMV and-and-and.."
Listen, we can address your concerns one by one.
But this is not a mature discussion.
Oh, so you're happy with your insurance? Of course most people are happy with their health insurance. 80% of insured people never make a single claim. But if you're unlucky enough to be one of the 1% with a serious medical problem & catastrophic expenses, you've got a 50-50 shot at getting your policy cancelled in your time of need.
But you say you don't want "Socialized Healthcare" like they have in - gasp - Canada. Or heaven forbid that the U.S. raise its life expectancy beyond Albania's.
It's pretty clear that we need a change to the status quo which can be summed up as 'profits in lieu of people's lives.'
So when the chance comes up to talk directly with your congressman, why are you acting so childish? If you drown out the speaker then you are not part of the solution, you're being part of the problem.
It's not that we don't want to listen to your point of view. It's that you don't seem to be that interested in saying anything.
