Since there has been so much interesting news this week, we will be devoting another diary to news links. I hope that you will find them as interesting as I did...and that you will share any stories or diaries that you found interesting with us in the comment section.
So, let's start off with the news that everyone already knows...Jeff Merkley of Oregon has introduced a fully inclusive ENDA to the Senate. And, lets give credit where it is due, one of the lead sponsors is a Republican (Susan Collins).
And the American Psychological Association has
repudiated gay to straight therapies. Maybe now some GLBT youth won't be forced to endure the trauma that goes along with this "therapy." For those, like my dear BFSkinner, who know way more about psychology than I do, here is the link to the APA press release.
Remember how we all knew that the Rainbow Lounge bust on the anniversary of the Stonewall Riots was totally out of line, yet we were told that law enforcement behaved appropraitely? Turns out the Chief of Enforcement of Texas Alcoholic Beverage Commission disagrees (Link is to a PDF).
In international news that made me smile, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyhu visited the site of the LGBT youth center in Tel Aviv where 26-year-old Nir Katz and 17-year-old Liz Trubeshi were killed and 15 others injured. During his visit Netanyahu expressed sympathy with the LGBT community and was handed letter by community leaders protesting what they said was dangerous incitement against LGBT’s in Israel by ultra-Orthodox lawmakers and members of Netanyahu’s own governme.
In less happy news that I have discussed with several of you in the past, it does appear that younger gays are missing out on the safe-sex message.
And, because I like to end on a high note, check out what AAA has done. I, personally, will be purchasing a membership for my whole household. I hope that you will consider doing the same.
Well, that's it for me...please add any links that you like.
