I was originally going to write a diary about Rush Limbaugh and something very interesting I discovered. But that diary will have to wait another day.
Because after reading most of the diaries posted here today, a light bulb went off in my head (or over it, like in the cartoons) and I have to share this instead.
Actually, I started this realization while listening to Keith Olbermann's Special Comment the other day. And it followed me through Rachel's show, and to the Kos blogs.
The people who really need to hear the message aren't listening.
Basically what we are doing here is "preaching to the choir". And that's great, don't get me wrong. I enjoy reading the thoughts and feelings of outrage, and commenting on diaries that touched me or depicted a shared experience or outrage.
Today, as I started to comment on another diary about the town halls, and how to fight the lies and rhetoric coming from fringe, I remembered the comment I made about President Obama's town hall.
Fox didn't cover it!
They switched to ugly commentary, announcing they will "go back" when something confontational happens. They never went back
This morning, I read that Sen. Grassley has become a"deather"- actually telling the people in his audience, "You have every right to be afraid."
Of course they do!
They don't know that Obama has dispelled just about every myth and lie out there. They don't know that Obama praised Grassley as being someone who is working hard on the reform bill. They don't know that Obama held an informative and myth bashing town hall.
Fox didn't cover it
What they are being told is what they are hearing. And that is only what they are hearing. Rush, Hannity, Beck, et al have been feeding these people lie after lie, and when the opportunity to hear the truth is presented to them...
Fox pulls the plug
That is why I think a full press on the FCC is in order. I know they have no jurisdiction over cable, but we need to either force FOX to become "Fair and Balanced" as they advertise, or remove the "news" from their title. There are laws regarding truth in advertising. Fox is neither fair or balanced and they do not report the news.
This is outrageous! How is a citizenry supposed to be informed if they are hearing only one side of fact free information. This is why you can't argue with a wingnut.
As for Grassley, and the rest of our members of Congress who seek re-election by lying to the American people? They can be held accountable for their lies. They need to be publically shamed.
Dear Representative,
If you would be so kind, please release the financial statements of your contibutions from the health insurance industry. I am requesting a copy of this information for a very important reason.
I understand that you are not only against any health care reform, but you are aiding and abbeting the drive to ensure this legislation never be passed through lies and fear-mongering. You are not interested in debate, you only want reform to die.
I would like to hold a fundraiser in your honor. However, if I can know how much money I will need to raise in order to buy your vote for health care reform, I can get started right away. That is how important this issue is to me.
Thank you for your time in reading my request. I await your response, but please don't take too long. I'm guessing you are worth a lot of money, and this disctrict is poor. But I promise you, we will do our best.
P.S. Please also direct me as to where the money should be delivered. Off shore account? Small bills in suitcase? Let me know.
