I'm sensing a familiar theme reminiscent of the campaign last summer creeping upon us and I think everyone needs to take a step back and look at the big picture. In other words, let's play a little Follow The Leader.
First, I may have missed something, so please correct me if I'm wrong, but Barack Obama hasn't lost any big fights yet---at least as far as I can remember. I mean, remember last summer when people were tearing out their hair because he wasn't attacking Hillary, or he wasn't fighting hard enough, or he was caving on this and that, yadda, yadda, yadda. Well, he beat her, right?
And against McCain? Won again, despite all the cries that he couldn't win Ohio, Pa, etc. Until, that is, he did---and much more.
So before everyone falls off the deep end over what he is or isn't doing about healthcare---take a minute and listen to all the noise out there. Sound familiar?
I think what we are seeing and hearing with all these "deal memos" and "bi-partisanship caving" carping is just a replay of all the BS that has been used in the past to try and divide us in an attempt to weaken President Obama and to weaken us as a whole.
You see, the Republicans and their sponsors on the Right know they cannot stop Obama from getting what he wants on their own. Their only shot is to try and fracture us. I think too many of you out there are falling for their schemes.
Not too long ago, they said he couldn't get a Stimulus passed. He did. And while it wasn't perfect, President Obama got what he wanted. And who caved on Cash For Clunkers expansion? They did---despite all that huffing and puffing about filibusters, etc. And F-22 funding---gone.
So what makes you think President Obama won't get a Public Option? What makes you think he isn't leading the Republicans down the same path he took previous competitors? Do you really think Chuck Grassley is smarter than Barack Obama? Do you really think Max Baucus is going to sell out a President that nearly took his state in the election and made it bluer than Montana has been in a long time?
We elected a President who knows how the game is played. And he has the patience to wear them down. Haven't we seen this time and again?
I have and that's why I don't buy that crazy memo Huffington Post is running with---I mean it isn't like they haven't been punked before. And all this town hall hysteria is those "HUGE" Sarah Palin rallies from last autumn all over again. Remember them and those buses we saw bringing in schoolkids to beef up numbers that were puny in comparison to what Obama was getting? The media fell for that BS then and continue to believe Palin is a rockstar. It is only off-camera, as we saw with Mike Murphy and Peggy Noonan--that we see the truth---they knew all along she was a joke.
So chill a little on the heated "Obama better not cave..." rhetoric. Far as I can see, he is systematically working on fulfilling each one of his campaign promises. And while it may not be fast enough for everyone, I think it has been pretty remarkable---especially given the pile of crap he stepped into--just how much he's accomplished in just six months on the job and with packs of wild dogs nipping at his heels the whole way.
So what I'm saying here is let's not join that pack chasing him, let's instead be the pack pulling his sled.
