Yesterday I had a diary that didn't get much attention regarding a Jackson (Michigan) County Commissioner who showed up at a health care rally at the offices of U.S. Rep. Mark Schauer with a swastika sign.
My Huffington Post piece, however, got a LOT of attention and was on the front page and the politics page all day (still on the Politics page.)
Below is a pretty remarkable update.
Commissioner Phil Duckham's life mostly likely got a LOT more miserable yesterday after commenters on my HuffPo piece began linking to his public government page that gives his phone numbers, address and email address.
Several commenters defended Commissioner Duckham by saying that his swastika had a cross through it so he wasn't making any comparisons to Hitler or Nazis. On the face of it, this is a ridiculous argument because in his comments to the reporter, he clearly compares the president to Adolf Hitler and if he wasn't comparing him or his policies to Nazis and Naziism, there'd be no point in the swastika.
"This is how Hitler started out," Duckham said. "First, Obama took over the auto industry, then the banking industry. We don't need him to take over the health care industry."
However, as it turns out, Duckham actually arrived at the rally with his sign simply displaying a bold swastika. He only added the cross through it later. The proof is in these photos by my friend, Amanda Ross (click the photos for larger versions):

We can only hope that Duckham will be voted out of office not be reappointed as a County Commissioner when his term expires next year.
I'm just sayin'...
