One of the most compelling sessions that I attended at Netroots Nation was Reporting DoJ Misconduct Scandals: Why Netroots Remains Last Hope for Justice. I learned that the Bush administration’s investigation of hundreds of Democratic elected officials occurred at a 7:1 rate over Republicans.
We heard first-hand horror stories from Governor Siegelman of Alabama and Cyril Wecht, MD, JD, an outspoken Democrat and the former coroner of Allegheny County in Pennsylvania. Dr. Wecht was vindicated in June when federal prosecutors dropped the last of 84 felony counts against him after a career that had established him as a leading forensic pathologist.
I also saw the film The Political Prosecutions of Karl Rove. The film included interviews with many low-level Democratic politicians who had been unjustly indicted and often ultimately pressured into guilty pleas and jail time due to the machinations of Karl Rove and the cooperative U. S. Attorneys (the ones that didn't get fired). Very powerful film; I highly recommend it.
Dr. Wecht told us in no uncertain terms that not only are these Bush-appointed U.S. Attorneys still in place, but these politically-motivate prosecutions are still going on, AS WE SPEAK!
Why haven't they been replaced?
What can we do? Valerie Jarrett told us what we can do. She asked all of us to contact the White House and provide our constructive feedback.
Well, my constructive feedback is to GET RID OF THE Bush-appointed U.S. Attorneys.
Please share your constructive feedback with the White House today!
The President says that he doesn't want to look backward, he wants to look forward. That is all well and good, but – if you have a tumor, you need to get that tumor removed before you can get healthy.
Again, please, share your constructive feedback with the White House today.
