Listening to NPR this morning on the way into work, I couldn't help but think "There he goes again..." upon hearing that Obama and the Democratic Party are caving on a public option. Once again hope is dashed and immediately the phrase, "It's Jimmy Carter all over again" came to mind.
As students of history know, it does repeat itself. The economic problems we face today are those caused by lack of regulations similar to those that caused the great depression.
The question is...
Will Obama and the Democratic Party make the choice to fight the way FDR did? A no holds barred fight that led to a better life for every day people! Or will the Democratic Leadership continue to choose the Carter approach? We can all see today how Carter's tactics turned out, with Ronald Reagan getting elected after a single term for Carter in office.
Can my hope continue to spring eternal? With each new liberal or populist candidate that gets elected, I'm eager to believe that this one will be different. This one's votes and actions will reflect the campaign they waged to get my money or volunteer hours or vote to put them into office.
Are you like me, always seeming to end up disappointed cause once they are in their populism and liberalism disappears?
Why is it that our politicians can get away with being Cafeteria Democrats? There was a time when Democratic candidates had to pledge to uphold the Democratic Platform 100%.
The only way we'll return to that is if we Democratic Voters make a ruckus that can drown out the noise of those who lost this election. Maybe we'll inspire our Democratic Electeds, but more likely we'll scare them to action:-)
Raise some ruckus in the comments and then write your Congress Critters with a copy of your comment.
