We knew Alabama Congressman Mike Rogers (Al-03) never won any greater thinker contests. But his latest bizarre comments at a Talladega, Alabama Kiwanis and Rotary club rise to the level of a Bachmannism
I could not be more proud to be your congressman. I know some people think we're a bunch of knuckle draggers who don't wear shoes and marry our sisters, but you are the backbone of this country. And that beats wearing a dress in San Francisco.
Remember earlier this year Rogers called Nancy Pelosi "Tom DeLay in a Skirt" - "crazy" and "mean as a Snake". So I'm guessing Rogers thinks this was an attempt at humor.

Rogers latest comments are not only not funny, but they are sexist, off-kilter, possible racist and demeaning towards Southerners. Rogers showed a lack of judgment once again. That's nothing new for Tom DeLay's old running buddy
Looking at more text of Rogers remark it clear that he's also dead wrong on describing the 40 plus million in this country that don't have insurance
Of the 40-plus million uninsured, Rogers said about 20 million are mostly younger people earning more than $75,000 per year. They think it'ss not worth the money right now and decide to wait and by insurance later. Another 11 million are eligible for programs like Medicare or SCHIP (State Children's Health Insurance Program) but don't participate, and another 3 or 4 million just fall through the cracks. The rest are illegal aliens. Now, in this country, we believe you have the God-given right to be stupid, but if you chose not to buy insurance and end up going to the hospital, we have to pay for it. So the young people who dont buy insurance should at least have to purchase catastrophic coverage only or face a tax penalty. So really what it comes down to is 3 to 4 million people versus trashing the whole system.
Wow just the typical rhetoric from the Republican Party Congressman. Although he just kept going and going and going.
Joshua Segall, who almost defeated Rogers in 2008 is running again in 2010 and with our help can beat him. We talk about needing to support progressives and this is one progressive we have an opportunity to elect. If we can send Rogers packing them maybe he can get a gig Dancing with the Stars with his old buddy Tom DeLay. If you want to donate to Segall - please donate through our Progressive Electorate Act Blue Page - he appreciates any help.
